*Please Note: While Google Authenticator is the only listed authentication app in the Binance.US interface, most other 2FA apps that provide 6-digit codes are also compatible. You should still select 'Google Authenticator,' in that case. Please see here for more details and compatible 2FA app suggestions. |
Binance.US requires all of our users to implement at least one method of 2-factor authentication (2FA) for their accounts. This provides an extra layer of security to help protect users' funds and sensitive information.
With 2FA, users must enter not only their password but also a one-time code sent to either their phone text messages (SMS), a special application (such as Google Authenticator, or another authenticator app), or both (recommended for maximum security).
During sign-up with Binance.US, you will provide your phone number and initially be required to implement SMS 2FA. However, once finished signing up it is recommended that users either switch to an authentication app (such as Google Authenticator) or implement both SMS and an authentication app to further increase their account security.
This guide will show you how to add and reset (disable) 2FA methods with or without access to your authentication code (in the case of a lost phone etc). It will also provide additional 2FA troubleshooting info and FAQs for your convenience.
To get started, select the scenario that you would like help with:
- Add a 2FA method (SMS or Authentication App)
- Reset your 2FA method (with or without access to your code)
- Issues with a 2FA prompt or trouble logging in with 2FA
- Troubleshooting other 2FA issues and 2FA FAQs
Note: Withdrawals will be disabled for 48 hours after resetting your 2FA Method.

2FA login/prompt issues on the web

General troubleshooting & FAQs for 2-factor authentication
- I only see Google Authenticator as an app choice, can I use other 2FA apps?
- What if I have access to my phone but didn't receive an SMS code?
- What if I have access to Google Authenticator, but the code is not working?
- My attempt to reset my 2FA method failed or was delayed
- Why do I need 2-factor authentication?
I only see Google Authenticator as an app choice, can I use other 2FA apps?
Yes. Even though our interface only mentions Google Authenticator, the majority of 2FA applications that utilize 6-digit TOTP (time-based one-time passwords) will work in Google Authenticator's place. The application must also use an initial 16-digit key to bind accounts (which is standard for most 2FA applications).
In this case, you will still need to select 'Google Authenticator' as your chosen 2FA method when given the option.
Although we recommend Google Authenticator (if possible), here are some popular alternatives that also support 6-digit TOTP codes:
- Authy (iOS & Android)
- Okta Verify (iOS & Android)
- 2FA Authenticator App (2FAS) (iOS only)
- Microsoft Authenticator (iOS & Android)
- Duo (iOS & Android)
- LastPass (iOS & Android)
- Most other authentication applications that support 6-digit TOTP codes
In each of these cases, the instructions in the above guide should also apply or be suitable for these apps. If you find that the instructions above do not apply, we recommend consulting your authentication app's help guide, or, confirming that the app in question supports 6-digit TOTP codes.
What if I don't receive an SMS code?
If you're unable to receive the SMS authentication code, please try the following:
- Make sure that you are in a location with a strong cellphone signal/Wi-Fi.
- Close anti-virus software and/or firewall applications on your cellphone.
- Restart your cellphone and try again.
If you still cannot receive your SMS authentication code, please chat with an agent. Be prepared to provide your cell phone number, device type, (iOS/Android) version, and your location. Alternatively, you can also attempt to reset your 2FA method.
What if my Authentication app code isn't working?
If your Google Authentication code for Binance.US is not working, please try the following:
- In the Google Authenticator app, tap: Settings > Time Correction for Codes > Sync Now.
- Restart your cellphone and try again.
If you still cannot receive your Google authentication code, please chat with an agent. Be prepared to provide your device type and (iOS/Android) version. Alternatively, you can also attempt to reset your 2FA method.
If you're using another authentication app and having trouble, we recommend consulting your authentication app's help guide, or, confirming that the app in question supports 6-digit TOTP codes.
My attempt to reset my 2FA failed or was delayed
If your attempt to reset a 2FA method failed, please try the following:
- Ensure you verified the email sent by Binance.US. If you do not see the email check your 'Junk' or 'Spam' folders and make sure you have whitelisted Binance.US emails.
- Check that the information and identity document submitted via Jumio (if necessary) matches the information and identity document you submitted when registering on Binance.US.
- If you are using a different device, or are in a different timezone or location than normal this may have caused the attempt to fail for security purposes. Please chat with an agent for additional information if necessary.
- If all else fails, you may want to try again or chat with an agent for additional support if necessary.
Why do I need 2-factor authentication?
Binance.US requires all of our users to implement at least one method of 2-factor authentication (2FA) for their accounts. 2-factor authentication (2FA) adds an additional layer of security to your account.
Instead of merely needing access to your password, an attempted hacker or unauthorized individual would also need to access to your device and receive the temporary code before its expiry to gain unauthorized access or withdraw funds. This makes gaining unauthorized access that much more difficult and helps to keep your funds and private information safe.
