What is Metis?

Metis is an Optimistic Rollup, layer 2 scaling solution for the Ethereum network.

The network is supported by its native token METIS, which is an ERC20 token that serves as the gas and governance token on the Metis Network. Users pay transaction fees for transferring tokens or interacting with smart contracts, which are then used to pay fees on the Ethereum mainnet.
