What is Kusama (KSM)?
Kusama is a network of sharded blockchains called parachains, built using Substrate and nearly the same codebase as Polkadot. The network is an experimental development environment (testnet) for Polkadot.
Developers can use Kusama to bridge parachains to other networks, create smart contract dApps, independent token economies, governance, and more. Specific use cases include DeFi, supply chain, gaming, NFTs, DAOs, IoT. Additionally, parachains are connected to Kusama by leasing a parachain slot, purchased through auction, with an annual lease.
