Why can't I withdraw?

This article offers steps to troubleshoot withdrawal or trade restrictions

Updated this week

Occasionally, our system may lock your ability to withdraw assets under certain circumstances. The most common reasons for these restrictions are, recent account changes, new ACH deposits, or negative balances.

Check out the list below for more details on what triggers these restrictions and additional restriction reasons.

Recent Account Changes

Occasionally, we may need to lock your account if you have made recent changes to it.

For example, if you have reached out to our team to reset your two-factor authentication, or you have changed your password, we will temporarily disable your ability to withdraw. In these cases, please wait 48 hours for your ability to be reinstated.

This 48-hour lock ensures that all account changes are securely verified to prevent unauthorized access. Additionally, changing your email address will result in a 120 hour withdrawal lock.

Withdrawal Locks on ACH Deposits

Binance.US offers convenience by pre-crediting accounts when an ACH deposit is initiated. This allows you to use your funds more quickly without having to wait the full amount of time for your funds to be settled. We will then charge the connected payment method within 7 days from the original date of the transaction.

Note: This means that although you will be able to use your funds on the platform, you will not be able to withdraw the USD equivalent of this deposit (including the equivalent sum in crypto) for 7 days after initiating an ACH deposit. For example, if you initiate a deposit at 3:00 PM on a Monday, the lock will expire at exactly 3:00 PM the following Monday (168 hours later).

Once this period has passed, you will be able to freely withdraw your funds (or crypto equivalent). The hold can be easily calculated by subtracting the total USD value of your deposits on hold from your account's total USD value at any given.

  • Allowed: Trading with the pre-credited balance.

  • Restricted: Withdrawing funds or the cryptocurrency equivalent to the deposited amount until the hold expires.

Additionally, this hold applies to both the USD deposit and any cryptocurrency purchased with those funds, including stablecoins such as USDT. The lock remains in effect during the specified 7-day period (168 hours).

Common Questions About ACH Hold Policies

Does the Hold Apply to Every Deposit?

Yes, all ACH deposits—for both new and existing users—are subject to the 7-day hold policy.

Can the Hold Period Be Shortened?

No, the 7-day hold period cannot be waived, shortened, or bypassed under any circumstances. This is a standard measure applied consistently to all locked deposits.

Can I Trade During the Holding Period?

Yes, the deposited funds or crypto assets purchased with them can be freely traded during the hold period. However, withdrawals remain restricted until the lock period expires.

Are There Any Exceptions?

No exceptions exist regarding the 7-day lock for ACH deposits. Other security-driven restrictions, such as 2FA resets, may temporarily block withdrawals beyond this policy.

How to Check Your Deposit Hold Status

You can quickly confirm the status and remaining duration of your withdrawal hold via the following steps:

  1. Log in to Your Binance.US Account: Visit the Wallet page section.

  2. Navigate to Deposit Management: Look for the ACH Lock Status, which will show as "Locked" if the funds are still under hold.

  3. Find the Unlock Time: This will clearly state the date and time (in UTC) when the hold will expire. You can always check the status of your deposit lock and its expiration by navigating to your deposit and withdrawal history.Key Details of the Hold Period

The holding period begins the moment the ACH transaction is initiated and lasts 7 calendar days (168 hours). This includes weekends unless otherwise specified.

Withdrawals to bank accounts or external wallets in USD or crypto equivalents are blocked during this time.

After the holding period ends, withdrawals are fully enabled for all applicable funds.

For a more precise hold expiration, navigate to your account history. It provides the exact date and time (in UTC) when the hold will lift, ensuring transparency in the withdrawal process.

Why Is There a 7-Day Hold for ACH Deposits?

Binance.US applies a 7-day withdrawal hold (equal to 168 hours) to all ACH deposits to ensure financial security. The primary goals of this policy include:

  • Preventing Chargebacks: The hold minimizes risks associated with transaction reversals.

  • Bank Settlement Confirmation: It ensures that sufficient time is allowed for the deposit to clear with your bank. During this time, while funds are pre-credited for trading, you cannot withdraw the USD equivalent or the purchased cryptocurrency until the hold expires. The hold applies equally to all users, regardless of account tenure Funds and assets already in your account, not linked to a recent deposit, can be withdrawn at any time without restriction.

In comparison to ACH deposits, crypto deposits are not subject to a withdrawal hold, although they may require up to 3 minutes to be verified before becoming available for withdrawal. This distinction highlights the flexibility associated with cryptocurrency deposit and withdrawal processes.

Withdrawal Locks on Crypto Deposits Still Being Confirmed by the Network

Occasionally, you may also encounter a withdrawal lock if you attempt to withdraw crypto that was recently deposited and is still in the process of being confirmed by the blockchain.

Although crypto deposits are credited after their first network confirmation, they will not be available for withdrawal until they have been fully confirmed by the network.

Generally, this network confirmation process won't take more than a few minutes. However, during periods of network congestion or higher network activity, your deposit may take longer to be confirmed.

To view the number of confirmations your crypto deposit has received, you can follow these instructions:

  1. Navigate to your Wallet page and locate the cryptocurrency you deposited.

  2. Click on cryptocurrency you deposited to open your transaction history, then scroll down to locate the recent deposit.

  3. Click on the recent deposit to review the details; you will find the number of network confirmations on this page.

Unsettled Chargebacks and Returns (Negative Account Balance)

Occasionally, you may receive a notification saying that your withdrawals are suspended due to risk management.

This notification indicates that after attempting to complete a deposit, our payment provider could not retrieve the funds from your bank account.

Chargebacks can affect the functionality of your Binance.US account, resulting in restrictions such as disabled trading, withdrawals, or deposits. Below, we outline the causes of chargebacks, steps to prevent them, methods to resolve them, and how to fully restore your account functionality.

What Is a Chargeback, and Why Does It Happen?

Chargebacks occur when Binance.US fronts the funds for your deposit or transaction, but the deposit is ultimately rejected or withheld by your bank. The following scenarios commonly lead to chargebacks:

  1. Insufficient funds in your bank account during processing.

  2. Authorized deposits being revoked by your bank (e.g., due to stop payments, flagged transactions, or disputes).

  3. Use of unsupported bank accounts for transactions (e.g., savings or brokerage accounts instead of personal checking accounts).

  4. Deposits being held or unavailable due to bank policies (e.g., check deposit holds).

Steps to Prevent Chargebacks

While chargebacks can't always be avoided, users can minimize risks by following these recommendations:

  • Ensure your bank account has sufficient funds before initiating deposits.

  • Use only personal checking accounts for ACH deposits (savings, brokerage, and other accounts are not supported by Binance.US).

  • Avoid revoking previously authorized deposits with your bank.

  • Keep your bank account active and free from restrictions.

  • Be aware of your bank's deposit policies concerning check holds or transaction flags.

How to Resolve a Chargeback on Your Account?

If your Binance.US account is disabled or restricted due to a chargeback, follow these steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Cover the Negative Balance:

    • Deposit USDT or USD equivalent to settle the balance.

    • Use external cryptocurrency transfers or third-party trading providers for this purpose.

  2. Sell or Convert Crypto Assets to Settle:

    • If deposit restrictions are in place, sell or convert existing crypto assets to USD to cover the chargeback.

  3. Submit Documentation for Disputes:

    • Provide your latest bank statement from the account used for deposits.

    • In some cases, Binance.US may require a video of yourself holding your ID for identity verification.

  4. Wait for Review:

    • If you've submitted the necessary documents, Binance.US typically reviews them within 24 to 72 hours. You’ll be notified via email once your account is eligible for deposits again.

Restoring Full Functionality to Your Account

Once the chargeback has been resolved and the negative balance cleared, your account will be fully re-enabled. You’ll regain access to deposits, withdrawals, and trading functionalities.

  • Log in to verify that the restrictions have been lifted.

  • Check your account history to confirm successful transaction resolutions.

Account Verification

Another reason we may lock your withdrawals is that we need to finish verifying your identity. Please open a chat session with Customer Support, and we'll ask for the necessary documentation.

Referral Rewards

Referral rewards are subject to a 7-day withdrawal lock.

Additional Withdrawal Restrictions

  • Open Orders: Funds tied to open orders cannot be withdrawn. Check and cancel any open orders in your account if you wish to make those funds available for withdrawal.

  • Staked Assets: Withdrawals are unavailable for staked amounts until unstaking is complete.

  • Recently Added Payment Methods: New payment methods may take up to 24 hours for activation.
