Getting started
1. What is Binance.US Wallet?
Binance.US Wallet is a self-custody crypto wallet built into the Binance.US app. It works as your gateway to decentralized applications (dApps), letting you manage your crypto, swap tokens across chains, bridge assets, and interact with a selection of blockchain platforms.
2. What are the benefits of using Binance.US Wallet?
Binance.US Wallet is a straightforward way to get started with Web3. You can create a wallet in seconds without worrying about a seed phrase, swap tokens and bridge assets across chains without leaving the app, and explore a selection of dApps with built-in security tools like Token Audit and Security Center. Keyless technology protects your wallet by removing any single point of failure.
3. Do I need to complete identity verification to use Binance.US Wallet?
Yes. Binance.US Wallet is built into the Binance.US app, so you need to be a verified Binance.US user and agree to the Binance.US Web3 Wallet Terms to create and use a wallet.
Self-custody and security
4. Is Binance.US Wallet a self-custody wallet? Who controls my assets?
Yes. You have full control over your assets, which also means you're solely responsible for safeguarding them and keeping your wallet backed up.
5. What is Multi-Party Computation (MPC) and how does it work?
Multi-Party Computation (MPC) is a security method that splits a wallet's private key into multiple key-shares instead of storing it in one place. This removes the single point of failure you'd have with a traditional key or seed phrase, and lowers the risk of your wallet being compromised.
6. Can I get my seed phrase or private keys?
Binance.US Wallet doesn't use a seed phrase. Instead, it's a keyless wallet secured by private key-shares stored in different locations. If you want to access your private keys directly, you can convert your wallet to a private key wallet.
Backups and recovery
7. Do I need to back up my Binance.US Wallet?
Yes. Binance.US Wallet gives you two ways to do it. Quick Backup, the default method, encrypts your key-share and stores it with a secure third-party provider. You back it up using just your biometrics, no recovery password required. You can also use Cloud Backup, which stores your key-share across your device and your personal cloud storage, protected by a recovery password known only to you.
8. Can I restore my Binance.US Wallet?
Yes, and how you restore it depends on which backup method you used. If you set up Quick Backup, you can restore your wallet on a new device using your biometrics and Binance.US's identity verification, no recovery password needed. If you used Cloud Backup, you can decrypt your stored key-share with your recovery password.
Note, if you convert your wallet to a private key wallet, you will not be able to restore it using the built-in backup and restore functionality.
9. What happens if I forget my wallet recovery password?
Your recovery password only applies to Cloud Backup, where it's known only to you and never stored by Binance.US. If you rely on Cloud Backup alone, forget that password, and also lose access to your device or delete the Binance.US app, there's no way for Binance.US to recover your wallet for you. Quick Backup avoids this problem entirely, since it doesn't use a recovery password at all. You access it simply by logging into Binance.US and verifying your identity.
That's why setting up Quick Backup alongside Cloud Backup is worth doing: it gives you a way back in even if you lose your recovery password. To recover your wallet this way, delete and reinstall the Binance.US app, log back into your account, and verify your identity to restore through Quick Backup. Once you're back in, set up Cloud Backup again so you have both methods in place going forward.
Fees and transactions
10. Will I be charged network fees when using Binance.US Wallet?
Yes. Blockchain transactions require network fees, often called gas fees, which pay validators to process and confirm transactions. These fees change depending on network traffic and which blockchain you're using.
11. If my transaction fails, do I still need to pay network fees?
If the transaction was executed but failed, yes, you'll still owe the network fee.
12. If I send my assets to the wrong address, can I get a refund?
No. Binance.US can't reverse or refund a transaction sent to the wrong address. Always double-check the address before confirming any transfer.
Using dApps
13. If I lose assets interacting with a dApp, can I get a refund?
No. Binance.US Wallet gives you a way to access dApps, but it isn't involved in how those third-party platforms operate. Always research a dApp independently and understand the risk before you connect your wallet to it.
