What is Kusama (KSM)?
Kusama is a decentralized and scalable blockchain network that serves as the ‘canary network' of Polkadot, allowing developers to test new blockchains or applications before releasing them on the network. Kusama shares virtually the same codebase as Polkadot, but enables quicker upgrades and more flexibility for developers who want to move fast and deploy later on Polkadot.
The Kusama network allows for the development of two types of blockchains: 1. The relay chain, which is the primary Kusama blockchain where transactions are finalized, and 2. Parachains, which are tailored blockchains that use the relay chain’s resources to confirm the validity of transactions.
KSM is Kusuma’s native utility token intended for the use of 1.) Staking for the operation and security of the network, 2.) Bonding to secure a slot as a parachain, and 3.) Governance.
